Looking back
Our longevity shows strength, commitment to our Purpose and our ability to evolve. As we prepare to celebrate our sesquicentennial anniversary, we’re reflecting on how we and our products have developed and grown. From simple savings funds to digital healthcare propositions (such as a video GP in your pocket).
The arrival of the NHS in 1948 changed the way people accessed healthcare, meaning that the savings funds that would eventually go on to become Simplyhealth had to change and adapt, providing services that complemented the NHS. The healthcare landscape is everchanging, but what hasn’t changed is our commitment to our Purpose; improving the UK's access to healthcare.

Our heritage
1872
Manchester & Salford Hospital Saturday Fund (MSHSF) founded
Leeds Hospital Fund (LHF) founded
1922
Hospital Savings Association (HSA) founded
1948
Launch of the National Health Service (NHS)
1986
Denplan founded by two dentists, creating the first dental payment plans
1999
MSHSF and Healthcare Insurance Alliance merge to form HealthSure Group Ltd
2000
Denplan, part of Simplyhealth, first become lead sponsor of Mouth Cancer Action Month
2002
LHF joins forces with HSA to begin creation of the Group
2009
HSA, LHF and HealthSure come together as one Simplyhealth
