Volunteering to make a difference

Communities matter which is why we're here to help.

We support communities across the UK by improving access to healthcare. We do this through our Corporate Giving and long-standing, colleague volunteering programme.

Colleague volunteering

We’re proud to work closely with people, community groups and charities at a local, regional, and national level to provide volunteering opportunities for our colleagues.

Every year, Simplyhealth colleagues can use three working days to volunteer their time in their local community. In 2022, this totalled over 1000 hours!

Many of our colleagues also volunteer in their own personal time too.

Our volunteering stories

Video about Simplyhealth and The Boaz Project

The Boaz Project

Boaz is a day centre based in Hampshire, for adults with additional needs to visit, and experience what working life is like. Daily activities include tasks such as cooking, horticulture, animal care and crafts.

In this short video, Emily from Boaz shares more about the amazing work Boaz does, and how our Finance team have enjoyed volunteering their time. Across many visits, they’ve helped the Boaz team and their wonderful members develop their facilities.

Simplyhealth employees during a beach clean on Bournemouth beach

The Great British Beach Clean

During a visit to Bournemouth Beach in association with The Marine Conservation Society, 58 Simplyhealth colleagues volunteered their day and scoured a 100-metre stretch of beach to pick litter.

In just over an hour, they collected 5,506 items of waste weighing a whopping 16kg. This included 2,734 cigarette butts, 171 caps or lids, 166 pieces of glass and even one wellington boot!

We’re really proud of the team and the role they are playing in tackling the global waste problem and ocean debris.

Simplyhealth employee painting and decorating at Andover Young Carers

Andover Young Carers

Andover Young Carers has been raising awareness, providing support and advocating on behalf of the young carers of Andover, and surrounding villages since 2000. As part of the Hampshire Young Carers Alliance (HYCA), the charity has been working to support young carers in Hampshire.

Simplyhealth volunteers went to visit Andover Young Carers earlier this year to assist with renovations on site. Members of our customer services team spent their volunteering day helping out by renovating and decorating the site facilities including sanding and painting the kitchen and activities room, fitting coat hooks and hand towel dispenses and repairing a broken door.

We were also able to assist this amazing charity with a £200 donation for the paint and equipment required for the day.

The team have confirmed they will be back when the weather improves to sand and repaint the garden benches so the children can have fun outside.

A representative from Andover Young Carers commented “Andover Young Carers really do appreciate all that Simplyhealth have offered, without volunteers and fundraising our charity would struggle to survive.”
