The day we went to see the exciting developments at Naomi House & Jacksplace

Naomi HouseCharitable giving is a key part of who we are at Simplyhealth. While we donate over £1million to health charities and groups in our local communities every year, it's great to see for ourselves how our support has made a difference.

Naomi House & Jacksplace is a hospice which provides expert care and respite for children and young people with life threatening and limiting illnesses and their families. It has recently undergone a major redevelopment and two employees from Simplyhealth were invited to look around the new facility. Lisa Hammerton gives an account of the day:

"Being only a stone's throw away from our Andover offices and having supported the charity for many years, we were delighted to visit the new Naomi House. What was apparent from the moment we walked through the door was that Naomi House is not a sad place, but somewhere to have fun and to make what can be a difficult time a little bit easier. It's a place where precious memories are made to last a lifetime for the whole family in a safe environment.

"It's clear that every single detail has been thoroughly thought out.  Hoists are fitted throughout the building, making every room accessible for all; bedrooms are incredibly spacious and decorated bespoke to the child to make it a real home away from home.  The bathrooms are also big enough to have a party in - which is actually the point!

"The sensory room was something that really took my breath away and I'm sure will be a firm favourite. It's a fantastic room full of amazing technology, such as bright lights and decorations that can be changed and controlled by the children. The garden area was also great. It's all wheelchair accessible and filled with sensory activities, making it an adventure playground for the children.

"All in all, we were completely blown away by the improvements and believe that the children and their families will have a brilliant time visiting. To see more of the new hospice facilities, watch this video from the launch."

Rainbow RunThe transformation of Naomi House has been a result of funds raised through the Caterpillar Appeal. For the past two years, we have supported the appeal by sponsoring a paint station at Naomi House's infamous Rainbow Run in Southampton. Just last month a team of volunteers covered over 700 runners (and themselves) in green paint as they made their way around the 3k course.

Naomi House & Jacksplace Events Fundraiser, Nicole Denison, said "Southampton came out in force to support us and the sun shone all day. It was perfect and couldn't really have gone better. We hope the Rainbow Run will raise £30,000 for the Caterpillar Appeal and we are incredibly grateful to the fabulous team from Simplyhealth for their ongoing support."
