A new and exciting 7k multi-terrain course, the event took runners past some stunning sights including the King's Knot, Beheading Stone, Heritage Trail Wood Carvings and Stirling Castle, before crossing the finish line back in Kings Park.

This year's inaugural weekend also hosted the world famous Simplyhealth Great Stirling XCountry run, which was broadcast live on BBC One. Some of the world's top athletes from Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Europe and the USA battled it out during three races (women's 6k, men's 8k and mixed x4 team relay) , taking them over a tough cross country course.  Teams of male and female runners took on a fast and furious relay, taking them around a 1.5K lap as they competed, culminating in Team GB, headlined by Simplyhealth ambassador, Laura Muir, claiming the coveted Stewart Cup.

Supporting people's health with a new charitable partnership
As title sponsor, we're honoured to be able to choose the headline charity partner for the Great Run Series.  For 2019, we've chosen Diabetes UK - a charity that is committed to helping people with diabetes access the right treatment, knowledge and support they need to lead a long and healthy life.  So we're proudly encouraging all participants who don't have their own chosen charity, to run for this important cause.

Simplyhealth Great Stirling Castle Run 2019 - Copyright Steve AshworthDiabetes is the fastest growing health crisis affecting more people than any other serious health condition in the UK - more than dementia and cancer combined.

There are now nearly 3.7 million people living with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes in the UK and it's estimated that there are nearly 1 million people currently living with the condition who don't know they have it. Additionally, 12.3 million people in the UK are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. It's frightening to think, if not managed well, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes can lead to devastating complications, such as amputations, sight loss, kidney failure and stroke.

We're very proud to support Diabetes UK as our official charity partner of the Simplyhealth Great Run Series 2019.  Our partnership enables us to continue bringing our joint purposes to life - supporting people with their health, and encouraging as many people as possible to become more active to reduce the risks of developing diabetes.
