Helping out in our Community

Helping in the Community - BlogEvery year, Simplyhealth makes 200 days available for employees and teams to support their local communities.

Last year, my team took part in a community day at Andover Foodbank and we couldn't wait to help them again!

A couple weeks ago around 17 of us (from the Test team in the IT department) helped to move, weigh, sort and pack around eight tonnes of food.  This worked out at about ten pallets, ready to be sent to the distribution sites and more and more donations were being delivered throughout the day.

It was really surprising just how much food had been donated. This time of year is a busy period for the charity as many people need some extra help in the run up to Christmas. We really needed to put our organisational and methodical skills to the test and create an effective production line.

By the end of the day, we were all aching and feeling absolutely worn out but we knew that all our hard work was extremely worth it and really valued by the charity.

Not only was the community day a great team building activity and a way to boost team spirit, but more importantly it's incredibly rewarding and a great way to make a positive impact on our local communities.

The Simplyhealth Andover Community Fund is also helping Andover Foodbank with its Christmas shoebox appeal. If you'd like to get involved, visit http://andover.foodbank.org.uk/news-events for more information.
