A Day in Digital with Jack Coleman

Posted on February 4, 2019 by Harvey Atkinson

We have a growing digital team in place to help us deliver great digital experiences for our customers. We caught up with Jack Coleman to find out more about his role as Digital Operations Assistant.

AU Jack Coleman profleHi Jack, can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I am a local boy who grew up and went to school in Andover. It was at school where I first discovered my love for creative media and at college, I had incredible mentors who taught me skills in critical thinking. This is what helped me gain a place at Royal Holloway, University of London, in Film and Television Studies.

You used to work in our contact centre. Why step into digital?
Well I started at Simplyhealth in May 2017 as a Contact Support Advisor in the contact centre and had been looking at opportunities to develop in the business. When the role of Digital Operations Assistant came up, one of my managers felt that it would be perfect for me. Her confidence in me really helped me believe I could go for it - so I did!

Have you always had an interest in digital work?
I'm a big fan of science fiction and have always loved technology - It's exciting how much it's progressed throughout my life. I'm mindful of how `the digital world' affects society and the next generation. When I was at university, my interest peaked when exploring the impact of digital media and audiences. Before joining the digital team, I never had the confidence in my technical ability, but that's changed now!

What's a typical day in digital like for you?
No two days are the same! That's the most exciting thing about my job. I could be deleting hundreds of webpages one day and the next, building new digital experiences for our customers - every day is a learning experience.

Where do you see yourself in five years' time?
I want to become an expert in the world of digital, and use my learnings to create value for people's lives and inspire others. The digital team is an exciting place to be right now as we're making great steps to create and enhance experiences for our customers. I know first-hand from working in our contact centre that many people really value speaking to someone over the phone - and that's okay, but I'm really looking forward to working with the team to help people get the healthcare support they need digitally too!
