Simplyhealth Great South Run 2017

This weekend 3,000 people took part in the Simplyhealth Great Edinburgh Winter Run. The 5k marked the start of our new, exciting partnership with The Great Run Series, the largest, most compelling and innovative series of mass participation running events in the world! We know that everyday health feels great and we want to encourage as many people as possible to get moving, training, running and achieving!

There are 11 events in the series, including the Simplyhealth Great North Run and Simplyhealth Great South Run.  But, taking part isn't just for elite runners, or the super fit, anyone can get involved. So even if you've never run before in your life, this is a great opportunity to set yourself a challenge, whether it's a 5k, 10k or even a half marathon!

Helping a fantastic charity achieve even more

Revitalise logo As title sponsor, it's been a huge privilege to be able to choose the headline charity for The Great Run Series. We've chosen Revitalise, a national charity that provides respite holidays for disabled people and their carers. We've been so impressed with the amazing work that Revitalise does to relieve some of the pressure that disabled people and their carers face. They help them have fun and reconnect, safe in the knowledge that all their care needs are taken care of.

As headline charity, all participants without a chosen charity, will be encouraged to run for Revitalise. We hope this will raise over £1m that could help Revitalise open another holiday break centre, and reach even more people.

Mo Farah in Edinburgh 2017
Just call me Mo!

Fresh from being knighted in the New Year honours list, Sir Mo Farah kicked off his 2017 season by running in the Simplyhealth Great Edinburgh Cross Country this weekend. Shown live on the BBC it was a great opportunity to see just how popular running is. The Scottish weather was kind and thousands of people lined the course to cheer the athletes on. After coming seventh and admitting it had been 'a hard day in the office' Great Britain's most successful athlete was cheerful and gracious as he spent time signing autographs and posing for selfies, insisting that people still call him Mo. He's just one of many high profile athletes who are inspiring future generations and our CEO Romana Abdin has a new favourite photograph!
