That’s why our ingredients are pre-portioned and packed to reduce waste. You only get exactly what you need! But we know sometimes you might not be able to finish your dinner. 

 

Unsurprisingly, the HelloFresh team spend a lot of time in the kitchen, so we know a trick or two about what to do with unfinished leftovers. This #FoodWasteActionWeek, why not try these simple tricks to whizz what was once waste into a brand new t-a-s-t-y dish?! You’re welcome!

Cottage pie

 

It’s true leftovers never quite taste the same the day after. If you find yourself with leftover cottage pie, simply add a spoonful of curry paste and use the mixture to stuff pasties. Delicious!  

 

Cooked rice 

 

Rice is an easy one to overestimate when you’re cooking. If you find you’ve got some spare, cool it quickly and portion into freezer bags. Then, next time you’re in need, microwave from frozen (make sure it’s piping hot!) and add to a curry or fried rice. 

 

Roast chicken

 

Spare roast chicken is the best in sandwiches, salads and soups or pair with ham for a creamy pie filling. Yum!

Roasted veg

 

Roast with the same amount of drained chickpeas and cook for 15 minutes at 180°c. Whizz with tahini, lemon juice and olive oil and you’ve got yourself a delicious vegetable hummus.

 

Herbs

 

Reduce waste and save a little money! Instead of buying jarred sauces, try whizzing up wilting herbs with oil and nuts to make a fresh pesto.

 

Leftover fish

 

Shred up any leftover fish and add to mash and herbs to make delicious fishcakes. You can use cod, smoked haddock, salmon, or a mix!

Basil

 

Basil leaves are great in a pasta sauce, even if they’re a little wilted! They add a delicious depth of flavour to any pasta dish. 

 

Beans and Peas

 

Add cooked beans and peas to soups or stews to bulk up.

 

Spaghetti

 

Toss in oil and freeze single portions for lunch. Defrost in the fridge in the morning and at lunch stir in veggies of your choice.

 

Mash

 

Leftover mash and shredded cabbage make the best bubble and squeak cakes – top with a fried egg for the perfect weekend brunch.
