Making antibody tests available to our customers

Healthy LivingInform > Making antibody tests available to our customers

Blog Article | By Catherine Rutland 23 July 2020

As lockdown restrictions begin to ease many of you, like me, will be thinking hard about the impact this has on you and your family’s lives. There is of course so much to look forward to, like meeting wider circles of friends and family members again, but at Simplyhealth as we have always done, we continue to be focused on providing access to healthcare and the most valuable health information possible, for all of our customers.

We understand that our customers have differing healthcare needs and we want to offer choice as our options widen, but also reassurance as the global challenge to better understand the health impact of COVID-19 continues.

And so, we have partnered with a highly experienced medical group, Square Health, to make a Public Health England approved method of COVID-19 antibody testing available to our customers.

These tests, which are undertaken by a healthcare professional at a customer’s chosen residential address, can determine if someone has had COVID-19 and developed antibodies which are still present in their body. Once the test results are made available, our virtual GP appointments will be there to provide ongoing advice and support if it is needed.

We believe an antibody test is an important way to help our customers to make more informed decisions, as all of our lives at home and at work, move forward. Our commitment to testing is also supported by research, where 93% of customers told us they would value being able to have the test. And because this access to valuable health information is aligned to our purpose, we have ensured these tests are fully accessible and heavily subsidised for all of our customers and their families*.

Your health continues to be our priority and we hope you will find out more information here about the ways we hope to continue to support you and your family’s health, now and for the future.

Notes:

*Simplyhealth is pleased to extend this offer beyond the policyholder, allowing customers to test up to four adults (over the age of 18), based at the same location. Additional tests can also be purchased for £99 each.

Customers will be contacted directly with more information and tests will be available for the next 12 months, allowing customers to choose as and when they may be tested.

Currently Public Health England has approved antibody testing for Covid-19. It is important that Simplyhealth follows public health guidance and respects government restrictions in each of the devolved nations, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands. Therefore following official guidelines, tests will only be offered in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. As soon as we become comfortable that our service is aligned with regional guidelines, the tests will become available to Simplyhealth customers in other regions.

The tests, carried out by our partner Square Health is a Public Health England and Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) approved method of carrying out the test. Currently, this involves testing blood which is professionally drawn from a vein (a ‘venous’ sample). The healthcare professional will collect the blood sample, at the customers chosen residential location, adhering to all PPE requirements.

Results will be emailed to customers within 5–7 days and 24/7 virtual GP appointments are also available to customers to provide ongoing advice and support as needed. Anonymised results will be made available to Public Health England to help them understand more about the spread of the virus.
